One of the fun things about riding on indoor training platforms such as ROUVY is the ability to build your dream bike fleet – without needing an enormous bank balance (and an enormous garage). In real life, having several different road bikes for different types of routes, plus a TT bike and a gravel bike just for fun is a pipe dream for most of us. But on ROUVY, you can N+1 as often as you like.

We take a look at the bikes available on ROUVY right now, talk you through how to unlock a new trusty steed. And share some tips on which bike to choose, when.

How to unlock a new bike on ROUVY

Before we get all misty-eyed admiring the bikes on ROUVY, first let’s recap how to unlock the ability to go virtual bike shopping in the first place for anyone new to the platform.

Every time you ride on ROUVY, you’ll earn experience points which will help you to progress through the career levels. But you’ll also earn coins each time you complete a route, finish a workout or participate in a group ride. The longer and/or more difficult the route, or the more people show up to the group ride – the more coins you’ll earn.

We’ll go through how many coins you need for each bike available on the platform in a second, but the more coins you rack up – the more choice you’re going to have.

ROUVY bike selection
Browse the bike selection on ROUVY by heading to the customization tab.

Once you’ve got a solid number of coins, simply head to the ‘customization’ section (in the drop down list when you tap the ROUVY icon in the top left corner of the app) and get shopping.

The lighter a bike is, the easier it will be to ride up hills. However that can mean compromising on aerodynamics, meaning you’ll be slower on the flats and the downhills compared to those on more aero bikes.

TT bikes

For flatter courses, a TT bike will be a big advantage to boost your speed. They tend to be heavier, so you’d probably want to switch back to a road bike if you were planning to scale one of the big climbing routes. But for riding fast – a TT bike is best.

Gravel bikes

Chunkier tyres more your bag? ROUVY actually has a number of gravel routes available to explore on the platform. And while one of the benefits of indoor cycling is the fact you will never have to worry about getting a puncture should you venture onto rockier terrain on your virtual road bike. You can still ramp up the authentic gravel experience by switching to a gravel bike.

Best bikes on ROUVY for fast, flat courses

If you’re riding on ROUVY in Time Trial mode and you’re looking to get round a flat course in the fastest possible time. A TT bike will always be the best bike choice. On flatter courses, weight is less of a concern which means there’s no real penalty for choosing the most aero bike possible.

If you’ve got enough coins (50,000) we’d recommend taking your pick of the Trek Speed Concept, Specialized Shiv or Cadex Tri bikes on the platform. All of these get an aero score of 5/5 and weigh in at 8kg, giving you an advantage over any little rollers you come across on the course. If you’re just short of 50,000 then the next best choice will be the Quintana Roo V-PRi which costs 10,000 ROUVY coins less and only weighs 200g more.

Best bike for climbing

The best bike for a hilly course is most likely going to be a road bike. But it really depends on the nature of the course itself – if you’re doing one of the iconic climbs and only fussed about your time on the way up, then just choose the lightest frame you can afford. But if it’s a course where there’s some interim flatter sections and a fast downhill that contribute to your overall finish time. You’ll want to take aerodynamics into account too.

The best bikes on ROUVY that are the lightest weight and score the best for aerodynamics are Trek Madone SLR 9 AXS Gen 8 Team and the LIV Langma Advanced SL Team 2025. These bikes both weigh in at just 7kg but get an aero score of 4/5. They’ll set you back a fair amount of change in virtual coins though, costing 50,000.

ROUVY Trek Madone SLR 9 AXS Gen 8 Team bike
Lightweight and aero, the TREK Madone is a good option for hilly or rolling courses on ROUVY.

A good alternative is the GIANT TCR Advanced Pro 0, which comes in a little easier on the virtual wallet at 35,000 and weighs 7kg with an aero rating of 3/5.

Take a look at the course profile for the route you’re looking to ride. If the climbing isn’t significantly steep, and the flat/downhill sections exceed the amount of time spent going up. You could consider riding a TT bike instead.

Head to our ROUVY section to discover more about the indoor cycling app and learn how to make the most of your time spent riding on the platform.
