Stunning images from the 2019 Patagonman Xtreme Triathlon
12 months ago, inaugural women’s Champion Lucy Gossage described the Patagonman Extreme Triathlon (www.patagonman.com) as, “the experience of a lifetime“. The race gained headlines around the triathlon world, with athletes praising the stunning (but tough) surroundings, organisation and overall experience of this full-distance XTRI event.
Sunday’s second edition was won by two British athletes, Tim Don and Flora Colledge, among a field that has athletes representing 45 different nations.
The race started at 5:30am in the cold waters of the Aysen Fjord, started by the horn of the ferry that the athletes had just jumped off of. After swimming 3.8km back to Puerto Chacabuco, the 180km takes place on the Carretera Austral, finishing at Villa Cerro Castillo, before a full marathon through dirt trails and rubble roads, passing lakes and waterfalls, ending at the General Carrera Lake.
