Product Review: ashmei triathlon suit

Andy Tomlinson goes mimimalist with the new ashmei triathlon suit - where the 'feel good' factor probably says more about its style and quality than his!
Last updated -

Who is it aimed at?

Triathletes looking for a full trisuit.

Best bits?

Build and material quality.

What surprised you?

The ‘feel good’ factor.

Reasons why you would buy it?

If you are looking for a high end suit that offers great compression.

Our experience…

Quality and design are immediately apparent with the ashmei trisuit. As the company states, they build to a quality and then calculate the price. At £230 it’s certainly at the higher end of the market for sure, but it feels like it’s high end and that matters. Some kit on the market can leave you feeling a little short-changed.

On a design front it ticks every minimalists tick boxes. A black suit with a splash of red detail. That is it. Very smart.

Fabric is a blend of polyamide and elastane in differing mixes to allow extra stretch where you need it. It is a snug fit, offering compression benefits and it’s also hydrodynamic for reduced drag coupled with welded seams to help you slip through the water. A minimal chamois insert promises to limit water logging but offers good comfort on the saddle. I thought it looked better for shorter distances but has proved to perform well on longer tests in the saddle.

The suit offers a discreet gel pocket at the back that when not in use is almost invisible, adding to the the minimal design.

The fit of the suit around the thighs does away with the need for grippers or a hem which in turn helps reduce muscle fatigue through improved circulation, this increases comfort but importantly looks great!

Final verdict:

If you want a top quality performance trisuit then this is definitely going to be on your list. It’s understated design is very stylish. Fit is snug, emphasising its all round compression design. Normally I am a size large, I am just in between L and XL in the ashmei; if ever there was an incentive for me to lose those extra kgs! Just check your dimensions on the website. Overall this is a very nice item of kit that has been well designed and looks the part – at a price.
