Scotland to contest Mixed Relay Triathlon in Gold Coast

After racing for the Great Britain athletics team this past weekend at the Simply Health Great Edinburgh Cross Country International Challenge, Erin Wallace has today been announced as an additional member of the Team Scotland squad for the Commonwealth Games, taking place in Gold Coast, Australia in April.

The first announcement of the Scottish team (HERE), confirmed Marc Austin, Grant Sheldon and Beth Potter as selections for the individual races, with a further comment of:

“Triathlon Scotland understands that Team Scotland may be able to allocate additional slots to sports should they become available and will make a case to Team Scotland for an additional athlete slot to enable a relay team to be fielded during the final selection period in January 2018. It is our hope that Scotland will be represented in all the triathlon events.”

That wish has now been granted and Erin will join Marc, Grant and Beth in the Mixed Relay event which is scheduled for Saturday 7th April 2018.

Like Beth Potter, Erin has a strong background in track athletics, winning the Commonwealth Youth Games 1500m last year in the Bahamas. During 2017 she finished second at ETU Junior European Cup events in Holten and Lausanne.

“I was lucky enough to be one of the Queen’s baton bearers leading up to Glasgow 2014 and those Games really inspired me. At the time people asked if I was thinking about Gold Coast, but I’d never even considered it. I’m very grateful to be given this opportunity and it will be a surreal experience in an amazing place.

“I’m lucky to have started my Commonwealth experience at the Youth Games in The Bahamas last year and I am very excited about continuing this into the senior Games in a different sport.”
