STRENGTH. ENDURANCE. PERFORMANCE.

Less than 24 hours after celebrating another terrific performance in 2025, triathlon superstar Hayden Wilde was in hospital in Japan on Sunday after suffering multiple injuries in a bike crash.

The 27-year-old New Zealand great had jetted to the Japanese capital to race in the ASICS Tokyo Speed Race on Saturday night – taking on some of the world’s best 10k stars.

As ever, ‘The Falcon’ was terrific as he smashed his personal best to finish seventh in a time of 27:39, just missing out on breaking the New Zealand national record of 27:28.

But what had been a wonderful weekend up to this point took a very painful turn on Sunday, when ‘The Falcon’ revealed he had been injured in a bike crash.

Hayden Wilde ‘surrounded with the best help’

Hayden posted the sad news to his Instagram account – complete with an image of him laying on a hospital bed surrounding by a medical team.

He wrote: “Just thought I would update you all. I’ve been in a bike crash. Broken 4 ribs. Scapular broken. Injured lungs. Surrounded with the best help. Keep you posted. Pretty gutted after such a nice day yesterday.”

Hayden added that the damage to his lungs means he will be unable to travel out of Japan any time soon.

“I’ll be in Japan for a few weeks on the mend as due to lungs it’s not possible to travel.”

We wish Hayden the very best in his recovery, and hope to see him back racing 100percent healthy soon.
