Australian pro cycling star Cam Wurf has given us all a typically honest debrief about his IRONMAN Texas performance last Saturday, insisting he does not regret his ‘go big or go home’ methodology after an eighth-place finish.
The much-loved Aussie endurance veteran produced a sensational 3:53:32 bike split in the Lone Star State – the fastest time recorded on two wheels in an IRONMAN race. He beat the previous best of Sweden’s Robert Kallin (3:54:33) set at IRONMAN Vitoria-Gasteiz in 2024.
However, that blistering effort came at a cost, as the 41-year-old finished over 15 minutes behind the eventual winner – Norwegian superstar Kristian Blummenfelt. He topped the podium in an incredible time of 7:24:20.
‘Big Blu’ was joined on the podium by Spain’s Antonio Benito Lopez and US triathlete Rudy von Burg, with Wurf finishing 6:38 behind the podium places.
Texas misfire
Posting on his Instagram account, Cam defended his decision to go hard on the bike in Texas, but admitted the final result suffered because of it.

He said: “When in Texas, go big or go home. I misfired on the overall result but I sure don’t regret the shot that I took at it.
“Congratulations to everyone who competed on the weekend. To the fans & volunteers, you treated us all to a Texas sized welcome & support out on course . Can’t wait to come back & do it all again with “Y’all”🤘”
Wurf sets records galore
According to TriRating records, Cam Wurf’s performance in Texas not only makes him the fastest Australian over the 140.6-mile distance, he also set a new Oceanic continental record with his time of 7:40:04.
Aided by the fastest bike split ever seen, the Aussie bested compatriot Matt Burton, who set a time of 7:40:28 at IRONMAN Western Australia in 2023. Wurf also boasts the third fastest time by an Australian, 7:43:16 set on his way to third at IRONMAN Vitoria-Gasteiz last year.
