After claiming the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Taupo in December, Jelle Geens had high ambitions for the T100 Triathlon World Tour in 2025.
The Belgian boasted one win from one race in the T100 series in 2024, claiming victory in Las Vegas in October before taking world glory over the middle-distance in New Zealand.
However, his 2025 T100 campaign started with a DNF study as he was forced to retire after the first loop of the 18km run in the unrelenting hot conditions in Singapore on Sunday.
A day to forget for Geens
Geens was in touch after the swim, 50 seconds down from leader Vincent Luis out of the water. However, the Belgian was unable to stay in contention, dropping down to eighth on the bike over three-and-a-half minutes off the pace.
Things took a turn for the worse on the run, suffering on the first lap as the leaders took two minutes out of him. Geens was then forced to the side of the road after the first run loop, unable to cool his body down.
